How do Injectables and Fillers help Maintain Youthfulness?

A beautiful and healthy face has a "V-shape" that we would all like to maintain for the rest of our lives. With age, the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid slows down resulting in facial changes over time. When these substances slow down in production, gravity begins taking it's course at faster speeds diminishing and inverting this "V-shape" causing the "tired" appearance to our skin. Here at Reveal Medical Aesthetics our goal is to help you maintain your natural beauty through a combination of injectables and skin care treatment options that are designed to eliminate or reduce the appearances of fine lines, folds, wrinkles and skin texture. Whether it be volume deficiencies in the face, cheeks, lips or hands fillers can help eliminate depressions.

Reveal's Injectors tailor each individual patients treatment plan according to the needs of the person. During your cosmetic application, our nurses inject a very small amount of a Neurotoxin such as Botox or Dysport for wrinkle reduction, dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane for lifting, plumping and contouring, Sculptra for renewing of your natural collagen over time, Kybella for the removal and contouring of the double chin and jowl areas and the PDO threads to support, lift and re-position tissues. A single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for around 3 to 24 plus months depending on the product and a number of biological factors of an individual client. As we age, our face changes over time, so one or all of these treatments allow you to control your looks subtly as you age.

Botox® / Dysport®

Both can be used for the same clinical applications and claim to work 3-4 months. Dysport works faster 2-3 days vs 3-5 days in Botox.  They are injected just under the skin when used to smooth out wrinkles in the frown, forehead, lines around the eyes (crow’s feet).  For optimal results, they are combined with other cosmetic treatments like lasers and other other injectable treatments.

Juvéderm® / Restylane®

Both Juvederm and Restylane are very similar in chemical makeup---mostly hyaluronic acid. The difference between the two is the amount of crosslinking, which changes the physical properties of the filler. By boosting your skin with these naturally occurring substance, Juvederm and Restylane reduce the appearance of wrinkles, contour the face and create volume to the area instantly. This diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles resulting in a natural softer look. The gel use is very tissue-friendly and closely resembles that which exists in the body.

To better understand what Kybella is, it is helpful to examine deoxycholic acid and its function within the human body. Deoxycholic Acid or deoxycholate is one of the byproducts of metabolized stomach acid found in the intestines. Its primary function within the human body is to metabolize fat.

When injected into submental fat, Kybella destroys the cell membrane, thus destroying the fat cell. Dead fat cells are then metabolized, and flushed out by the body.

This surgery-free dermal filler adds volume primarily to specific facial areas by injecting a synthetic and biocompatible type of collagen called Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA). The overall result from the PLLA microbeads is a restored plumpness to folds and sunken areas from increased thickness to skin texture. You will also happily notice an overall lifting effect to your face. Though long-lasting, Sculptra is a temporary boost and must be maintained through touch-up treatments. But the overall benefit is that as the microbeads dissolve, they are replaced to some extent by natural collagen.

The PDO Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue, using threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO). The threads introduces them into the deeper layers of the skin.

A PDO Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure. After numbing and infusion of local anesthesia, the PDO threads are inserted via sharp or blunt tip needles (called cannulas) into different layers of the skin. Once inserted, the threads anchor the skin and lift it upwards. The excess threads are then cut off.

Depending on the areas treated, the procedure takes 15-30 minutes. There is some discomfort during the procedure, but because of the improved techniques, my patients are experiencing less and less pain.

Yet another injectable treatment that can assist in rejuvenation of the face and neck is achieved through NovaThreads. The NovaThreads are needles that are pre-loaded with a PDO thread, inserted into the interstitial tissue at subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin and then the needle is pulled out while the PDO thread remains under the skin. This technique can support, lift and re-position the tissues, keeping them in a "V-shape" where it’s been lost.  The foreign body stimulates collagen synthesis & the skin structure created will hold for another 12 to 15 months.
